This Disney movie is set in Africa, where alpha lion Mufasa is the king of the jungle. He is married to Sarabi, the lioness and they have a son called Simba, who is naturally heir to the throne. Simba is the apple of Mufasa's eye, a carefree, happy little cub who can't wait to become king and frolic through life. Mufasa, however, makes sure that he teaches Simba the important values of life and the importance of ruling with morals.
While Simba is being prepared for his eventual rise to the throne, his uncle Scar (Mufasa's half-brother) watches with jealous eyes. Scar resents Simba, because now all attention is on the cub and Scar has lost his chances of ever becoming king. He hatches a devious plan to do away with Mufasa as well as Simba, so that he can get the throne once and for all, with no one to question his authority. The Lion King is a touching coming-of-age story, with inspiring music and a very strong, profound message.
The Lion King was re-released in 3D by Disney Studios, in 2011. Directed by Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers, it was rated U and released in DVD format. The total run time of the movie is 89 minutes.
